Independence Day en Key Biscayne

El programa del 53º Desfile del 4 de Julio en Key Biscayne fue anunciado por el comité organizador de este evento, uno de los más antiguos y tradicionales de la isla, que culmina con un fantástico despliegue de fuegos artificiales en el mar.

El tema del desfile este año es la libertad -Freedom is the Key-, que estará representado en las bandas de música, las carrozas y vehículos que harán el circuito sobre Crandon Boulevard. El evento se inicia a las 11 con el pasaje del 93 Escuadrón de F-16, basado en Homestead. El desfile comenzará en Harbour y Crandon Blvd. hasta West Wood, y el stand de jurados que premiara a los mejores participantes -Overall Winner, Most Patriotic, Most Beautiful, Best Homemade- se ubicará frente al Village Green.

Además de los participantes de Key Biscayne, se inscriben para el desfile instituciones y comercios de otras puntos de Miami y alrededores.

“Reúnan un equipo en una carroza, decoren los golf carts, la bicicletas o botes en trailers…Es el momento de celebrar juntos la libertad de esta maravilloso país en que vivimos”, dijo Patricia Flik, que este año preside el comité de organización del desile del 4 de Julio.

Theme: Freedom is the Key

Flyover: Homestead 93rd Fighter Squadron F-16s

Parade begins: Crandon   Blvd. andHarbor Drive and proceeds south toWest Wood Drive. Reviewing Stand located opposite the Village Green.

Highlights:

+ 53st Annual Key Biscayne Parade begun by Tommy Sykes & Arthur Yehle to teach their children the meaning and spirit of America’s independence and to have a great time in the process.

+ BBQ June 30 at 6:30 p.m., Key Biscayne Beach Club, 685 Ocean Drive. Music by DJ Mike Donovan and great food. Tickets available at the Key Biscayne Chamber Of Commerce.

+ Commemorative sponsor and patron “buttons” and t-shirts are sold to help defray costs of the parade; buyers of the buttons are eligible for great prizes, including travel, U.M. football tickets, bikes and gift certificates.

+ Commemorative plaques are awarded to winning entries: Overall Winner, Most Patriotic, Most Beautiful, Best Homemade.

+ Grand Marshal: DON MURRAY, 41 -year Key Biscayne resident and 38 years serving on The Parade Committee.

+ Uncle Sam: MIKE RICE,  a resident since 1961 who grew up on Key Biscayne. Has served on the parade committee for over 30 years.

+ Parade Judges include: Merritt Stierheim, Former Public Administrator for Miami-Dade County, LTCOL Mike Holhman, Homestead Air Force Base.

+ Some 50 entries include: North Miami Beach High School, South Florida Trail Riders, Mocko Jumbo Stilt Walkers, Lil John Fire Rescue (Custom Fire Truck), Hipico Independiente Nicaraguense and the ever-famous Junkanoos.

“Everyone is invited to come out and participate in the parade and float competition,” exclaims Patricia Flik. “Gather up a team on a float, decorate and ride golf carts, bikes, boats on trailers…It’s time for all of us to come together to celebrate the freedom of this wonderful nation in which we live.”
