INTERVIEW –
-When did you start with Radiate Happy Living and why?
Me (Alana Lima) and the other Co-Founder (Felipe Barreneche) started Radiate Happy Living in 2013.

We believe that recently with the marketing industry, children and parents are deceived by cute logos and false advertisement that lead children to consume unhealthy food and grow up with a distorted view of a healthy lifestyle, unaware of what ingredients are and of how each thing they consume will affect their bodies in the long run.
We hypothesized that if a child is taught how to make healthy choices, and become aware of effects of food and curious to know what different foods do to their bodies, then they will have better judgment and will be more capable of making healthy choices. Our mission is to provide that knowledge, open their minds to question the things they input in their bodies, in a fun, simple and entertaining way.

-Where are you from (country of origin of your family and city).

Alana- I’m from Brazil (Espirito Santo) I moved to the United states when I was 8. My parents and my whole family is from Brazil too.

Felipe- I am from Medellin, Colombia. I moved to the U.S when I was one year old. My family is all from Colombia too.

-How old are you and where are you studying?

Alana – I’m 18, a Senior at Mast Academy

Felipe- 17 a Senior at Mast Academy

-What are the main goals of this event?
The main goal of this event was to have a Healthy Day with the kids from Touching Miami with Love. Where we taught them what each exercise they did was good for and taught them tips on making healthy choices. And to end the day we had a healthy meal provided by our supporters Winn-Dixie and Bitsy’s Brainfoods. Our main focuses when hosting these events are to show children that exercise and healthy eating can be fun and entertaining and to also teach them how to be aware of the food they consume and what each thing does to their body in order to have the knowledge they need to make their own healthy choices.

In the end of the event towards the meal time they had a chance to share with their peers the different things they learned and made comments like ” I only want to eat healthy food” “Running is good for your lungs and legs”. “My favorite healthy food is carrots”.

We hosted the event as a field day style, where there was different stations of different exercise activities and all the kids had a chance to participate in the five different stations.

As an additional note, our primary sponsors: Organic Amazon , UGBP and Itaueria have helped us a lot by donating funds to purchase the products we use in our programs.

One of our greatest accomplishments with the project has been to reach out to over 400 kids by optimizing the project and spreading it to Long Beach, California and Floral Park, New York to two different groups of teenagers that reached out ot us over social media. We were able to do this by fundraising in a Go-Fund me account. Since then, people from the nation such as Detroit, Illinois, and Chicago have tried contacting us with interest of developing this program in their own community.
